    Day to Day Conflict
    The Evaporating (Conflict) Cloud
Preventing conflict starts with the small stuff.  Some people simply say, "Don't sweat the small stuff" but they give you no clues about how you and the other party can walk away without sweat.  Better yet, keep from making the "small stuff."

Small stuff starts with misunderstanding, not knowing what another person is thinking or feeling.  How do you reach an understanding?  How do you read their minds?  You can't really read minds, but you can put yourself in their position and see what could be small stuff from their point of view.

When there are problems and different points of view, it's always best if, instead of having a problem with each other, you work together to resolve the situation.
    Thinking Through Consequences
    The Consequence Branch
You've heard them often--the half-baked idea, the incomplete plan, the simple recommendation and you've thought they might have potential, however there are some negative outcomes lurking in the background.  Your usual response is "let me think about it" because you don't want to turn down the idea on the spot.

What are the logical consequences of the action you are about to take?  Have you thouhg about "If I do this, then what?"  Whether you are simply checking an immediate response to a problem or checking what seems to be a well developed course of action, the Consequesce Branch helps you consider what may not have been considered.

The Consequence Branch is a logical graphic thinking tool for examining the consequences of ideas.

    Chronic Conflicts
    Putting the Tools Together

You may not have seen them before--the conflict everyone walks around but acts as though it isn't there.  People wear a path around a conflict of long duration and become so accustomed to it that the conflict seems just "a part of life."  Chronic conflicts do become a part of life even though there is no requirement for their existance.  Think of all the time and energy wasted by avoiding the conflict, by walking around it.  Combine the Evaporating Cloud and the Consequence Branch to help break your way through the chronic conflicts in your workplace

    Achieving Grand Goals
    Overcoming Obstacles

When you announce a Grand Goal you are certain of achievement because of all the positive things that will come from it.
When someone else announces a grand goal you may be entrigued by it and impressed with it even though you recognize there will be many obstacles to overcome.

The Ambitious Target Tool will help you identify all the obstacles to your goal.  It will help you design intermediate objectives to overcome all of the obstacles.  It will help you arrange them in an appropriate order for completion.
